In Summary

The five number summary is a set of summary statistics that provides a quick and easy way to describe the distribution of a dataset. It is made up of the minimum, the 1st quartile, the median, the 3rd quartile and the maximum. These five numbers can be used to create a box plot, which is a graphical representation of the distribution of the data. A box plot allows you to quickly see the shape and spread of the data, as well as any potential outliers. It is often used in statistics and data analysis to help visualize and compare datasets.

To create a box plot, the minimum and maximum values are used to draw the ends of the horizontal axis. A box is then drawn between the first and third quartiles, with a line drawn at the median. Outliers (if any) are plotted individually. The resulting box plot allows you to quickly see the shape and spread of the data, as well as any potential outliers.
